Three men and a woman implicated last year in a massive Inland rooftop burglary ring pleaded guilty to various charges Friday afternoon in Riverside County Superior Court.

Investigators have said the ring was responsible for the theft of as much as $10 million in cash and jewelry from Inland businesses from Temecula to Palm Springs during a two-year period from 2002 to 2004. Five more suspects are scheduled to appear in court Monday at the Southwest Justice Center.

Laurentiu Penescu, 30, of Rancho Cucamonga, pleaded guilty to four counts of conspiracy to commit burglary with a blowtorch and was sentenced to a seven-year suspended prison sentence, according to court records. Penescu will serve one year in Riverside County jail and five years on probation.

Jacob Paul Chamberlain, 29, of Mentone, pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of stolen property and received a three-year state prison sentence. However, Chamberlain is being credited with 1,098 days of time served, according to Deputy District Attorney Quinn Baranski, who said he was scheduled to be paroled Friday night.

Claudia Isaia, 19, of Redlands, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of stolen property and was sentenced to one year in county jail and three years of probation. Isaia must serve 127 days and will do so under house arrest, Nic Cocis, her attorney, said. "My client is extremely happy with the settlement," Cocis said.

Alceu Andreis, 61, of Banning, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of stolen property and was sentenced to one year in county jail and three years of probation. Andreis has 45 days remaining in his sentence, according to court records.

Isaia is the wife of one of the defendants scheduled to appear in court Monday and has given birth to a daughter since her arrest last year, Cocis said. Andreis is the father of two of the defendants scheduled to appear Monday.

Baranski, the prosecutor, declined to comment on the guilty verdicts, citing the ongoing proceedings for the five other defendants. All five have pleaded not guilty.

The burglaries were distinctive because of the sophisticated way in which the businesses were entered - through the roof in the middle of the night - and the safes were opened, with a cutting torch.
